The newsreaders tell the news with no facial expressions because they are just telling the story not their own view on it. They are always looking straight at the camera so it looks like they are talking to us connoting an unmediated communication.

Documentary mini task

Introduction.
A documentary is a film, television or radio progamme that is made on real events with facts.

Expository documentaries
speak directly to the viewer, often in the form of an authoritative commentary employing voiceover or titles, proposing a strong argument and point of view. These films are rhetorical, and try to persuade the viewer.

Observational documentaries attempt to simply and spontaneously observe lived life with a minimum of intervention.

Interactive documentary is a documentary production that differs from the more traditional forms video, audio, photographic by applying a full complement of multimedia tools. The user is able to modify its journey through the documentary based on their responses. The documentary wont always be able to get access and privacy to film in a location. Even though they my get permission to film in a room inside a building they won't be able to film out of the room so there will be missing parts about the truth.

Reflexive documentaries show the viewer how the documentary is constructed (in terms of editing and portrayal of the truth) and the film maker is a part of the documentary and provides the narrative to the documentary.

Performative documentary emphasizes the filmmaker’s own involvement with the subject. The filmmaker shows a larger political or historical reality through the window of her own experience. Rather than rely on the expository approach, the rhetoric of persuasion, the performative filmmaker becomes a personal guide who shows it and tells it like it is with raw emotion. In performative documentaries they use dramatisations and re-enactments to tella story they use these because there wouldn't have been anyone there at the time to film it.

Conclusion
My documentary filmmaking philosophy is showing the history behind drum and bass and and going in to why people like it so much and i will also go in to a bit about mixing drum and bass.

I think documentary's showed show the truth but they can never put everything in so some of the truth will be missing. So you can't really believe everything you see because you have to remember that the edited has properly edited out some of the truth behind it all.

Research: Drum&Bass

Secondary research:
Secondary research is were you use existing research rather your own research. Examples are using research from books, newspapers and any other types of already existing research. My secondary research i ebelow.

Wikipedia 09/03/2017

Drum and bass began as a musical paradigm shift of the United Kingdom breakbeat hardcore and rave scene of the mid 1990s

ncorporating elements from dancehall, electro, funk, hip hop, house, jazz, pop-created fusion of hardcore, house and techno (with a strong accent of both the UK industrial and Belgian New Beat sounds)

pioneered by Joey Beltram, L.A. Style, CJ Bolland, Richie Hawtin and other
ome hardcore tracks at the time were extremely light and upbeat; the most extreme examples of this were the so-called "toy-town" tracks such as Smart E's' "Sesame's Treat"

Youtube 09/03/2017

drum n bass Rave Party 1997 - (I'm going to use clips from this at the start of my Documentary to show  what the Drum and Bass scene was first like)

Goldie and Rudimental on the success of Drum and Bass

Propaganda website. Primary research

Primary research is when you do your on research into things such as surveys, own video/audio recordings of events.

Primary research is new research undertaken after secondary reading has been completed. It is devised and done by the research.  I did a questionnaire for my Primary Research.  From my Primary research I have found out that not many people are interested in drum and bass. I'm going to try and change this by showing what drum and bass is really like from my Documentary.

I won't have to worry to much about transport because i'm filming either next to college or near to where i live.

Locations: (pictures)
Friend's houses
College

I'm not going to be filming in public so i don't have to worry about the UK laws on filming in public, but i have posted the UK law below..

Neither members of the media nor the general public need permits to film or photograph in public places and police officers have no power to stop you filmingor photographing incidents or police personnel. If a police officer insists that you stop filming, then do so.

Defamation is an area of law that provides a civil remedy when someone's words end up causing harm to your reputation or your livelihood. Libel is a written or published defamatory statement, while slander is defamation that is spoken by the defendant. I don't have to worry about this because i'm not going to have any harmful words in my documentary.

I'm not risking breaking any of the code Ofcom Broadcasting code.

Quantitative research is the systematic empirical investigation of observable phenomena via statistical, mathematical or computational techniques.Quantitative data is any data that is in numerical form such as hits on a website, sales of CDs and DVDs.  My questionnaire is quantitative research.

Qualitative Research is primarily exploratory research. It is used to gain an understanding of underlying reasons, opinions, and motivations. It provides insights into the problem or helps to develop ideas or hypotheses. Examples such as film reviews, game reviews and responses to advertising campaigns.

Data gathering agencies By Curtis: Radio joint audience research. 2. RAJAR: Method and type of data gathered. The R.A.J.A.R is an organisation that stands for radio joint audience research. Examples broadcasters' audience research board, Radio audience research ltd (RAJAR )

Audience research is any research conducted on specific audience segments to gather information about their attitudes, knowledge, interests, preferences, or behaviors. For cultural organizations, audience research is often conducted on current visitors and past visitors. Examples audience data, advertising effects and competitions.

Production research is always needed when developing a new product. It is research to help give information on the characteristics of the product. It focuses on the production of a product, in other words, how it's made. Examples placement media, costs, technological resources.
